About Us

The Icelandic cryptocurrency fund was founded in October 2021. The main objective of the company is the issuance of the digital króna. The digital króna makes it easier for Icelanders to access virtual currency faster and cheaper than before. Users can obtain the issued digital króna on the company’s website, mintum.is, and use it immediately on a cryptocurrency exchange to access other virtual currencies. The digital króna is a stablecoin and can always be exchanged at a rate of 1:1 on the mintum.is website.

The company is a registered virtual assets service provider according to Article 35, Paragraph 1 of Act No. 140/2018 on measures against money laundering and terrorist financing, and was registered on July 1, 2022.

The company began testing the systems of mintum.is in late summer 2022, and the website was opened to the public for open testing in September 2022.

Founders

Bjarni Freyr Björnsson is the chairman of the board of the company and one of its shareholders. Bjarni works as a programmer at Enum ehf. He has been very interested in the world of cryptocurrencies since 2013 when he engaged in mining various cryptocurrencies.

Börkur I. Jónsson is the CEO of the company and one of its shareholders. Börkur is a lawyer and one of the owners of Lögmenn Kópavogi (Kópavogur Lawyers). Börkur has been following the cryptocurrency world for many years and was the originator of the Icelandic digital króna.

Birkir Rafn Guðjónsson is the Chief Technology Officer of the Cryptocurrency Fund of Iceland and one of the company’s shareholders. Since 2015, Birkir has developed various projects related to cryptocurrencies, ranging from a Litecoin fork to smart contracts on new blockchains.
